Since then, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery has become the focus of Dr Florica's practice. His experience of over 1000 laparoscopic surgeries regularly includes abdominal emergencies, gallbladder, bowel (colo-rectal), hernia and anti-reflux procedures.

Dr Florica's main surgical interest is laparoscopic gastric banding as a weight loss solution for obesity sufferers. Since 2003 he has completed courses and has been mentored in a range of bariatric surgeries including gastric banding (Prof Paul O'Brien) (St George Hospital) (Hills Private Hospital), sleeve gastrectomy (Mercy Bariatrics, Perth) and gastric bypass (University of California, Irvine). Dr Florica has performed hundreds of laparoscopic gastric banding procedures including revision surgery with no major technical complications and his results are consistent with best practice standards.

Dr Florica is currently practicing privately at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN) (Wahroonga) and Hawkesbury Hospital (Windsor). He also regularly schedules patients for colonoscopies and panendoscopies at Castle Hill Day Surgery.

While most of his work is performed in the Hills District, Dr Florica enjoys occasional rural and humanitarian secondments, providing support to communities in need. Such deployments include opening and operating an Australian subsidized operating theatre in Nauru with Ausaid in 2003, when he had the honour to operate the president of Nauru or medical support to Australian Defence Force.

He has also contributed research papers, publications ("laparoscopic resection of splenic artery aneurysm with splenic preservation"), lectures and other presentations on laparoscopic surgery and gastric banding among other surgical interests for peer review. Highlights include presentations at the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (Dallas, USA) (2006), the 11th World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (Sydney) (2006), faculty at the International Association of Surgeons and Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (Bucharest) (2007) surgical video techniques at the 3rd International Conference of Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery (Cleveland Clinic, USA) (2008)

Dr Florica is continuously specialising in the latest laparoscopic surgical technique and in 2008 he has obtained a Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery from Luis Pasteur University (Strasbourg, France).
